Medical Detox for Women

Safe, supervised withdrawal on a peaceful 30-acre property just outside Tallahassee.

Program Overview and Who It Is For:

Stopping the use of alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids, or certain other substances is not simply a matter of willpower and a hard few days. For women who have become physically dependent, withdrawal can bring dangerous cardiovascular changes, seizures, severe psychiatric symptoms, and medical emergencies that require immediate intervention. Medical detox at Canopy Pines provides 24-hour clinical oversight to keep a woman safe from the first symptom through the last, and to manage the experience so it is as tolerable as medicine can make it. This is not a detox unit tucked inside a clinical building. Women detox on the Canopy Pines property: the same 30 acres, the same trees, the same setting where residential treatment takes place. The transition from detox into residential is natural and supported. When detox ends and residential begins, no one starts over.

Daily Structure:

Days during medical detox are calm and unhurried by design. Medical staff monitor vital signs and symptoms continuously. Nutrition and hydration are supported. Rest is prioritized. Time outdoors on the property is available as a woman’s physical condition allows. As withdrawal resolves and stability is established, brief introductory clinical work begins, not to rush the process, but to start laying the foundation for the deeper work ahead.

Clinical Services Included:

24-hour nursing supervision and vital sign monitoring. Medically managed withdrawal using evidence-based protocols. Psychiatric evaluation by Dr. Jorandby or a member of the clinical team. Medication management for both withdrawal symptoms and any underlying psychiatric conditions. Direct coordination into residential treatment on the same property with the same team.

Length of Stay:

Medical detox length is determined entirely by how a woman’s body responds to withdrawal management. Most women complete medical detox within five to ten days. Some need less time. Some need more. The clinical team makes that determination based on medical indicators, not a preset schedule.

How Admissions Works for This Level:

A call to our admissions line starts everything. A team member gathers clinical information about what substances are involved, the history of use, current medications, and any existing medical conditions. Insurance is verified. A start date is set. A woman is told exactly what to bring, what the first 24 hours will look like, and who she will meet when she arrives. Nobody navigates this alone.
